Gavin BERESFORD

Gavin is a Smart & Decentralised Energy expert with over 20 years’ experience in the energy sector, supporting a wide range of technology, innovation, and business transformation programmes. He leverages deep industry knowledge built through extensive collaboration with suppliers, network operators, trade associations, industry forums, regulators, and Government. His strong relationships across consultancy, manufacturing, innovation bodies, meter operators, asset managers, the DCC, and other public organisations enable him to shape and deliver complex strategic and innovation led initiatives. 

Gavin is particularly passionate about advancing the UK’s rapidly evolving flexible energy markets, expanding opportunities in Demand Side Response, and driving the system reforms needed to build a resilient, decarbonised future energy system. 

Throughout his career across both small and large energy suppliers, Gavin has led major transformation portfolios encompassing new venture delivery, automation, service improvement, technology implementations, and national Smart Programmes. Most recently, he served as Programme Director for Northern Ireland’s Future Gas Metering rollout. He is also an active advocate for Community Energy and Local Energy Systems, playing a central role in forming and operating the Local Energy Market Alliance in partnership with Talan’s collaborators. 

Gavin additionally brings substantial expertise in procurement, supplier and service relationship management, contract development, technology integration, audit readiness, and leading multifaceted stakeholder and industry engagements essential to delivering high profile programmes.
